about

Second of three singles released in anticipation of our upcoming album - Second Opium Wars!

lyrics

fifteen parts saltpeter
three parts charcoal dust
combine with two part brimstone
for forces that combust
a taste of molten iron
in rifled cannon curves
coursing through my veins
as I try to steel my nerves

boots of polished leather
buttons gleam with pride
a canister of oxygen
saber at my side
imperial decrees
we take into the air
ten thousand by ten thousand things
expanding everywhere

the game we played
we played with them
that wondrous device
but who shall flinch at lightning strike
will be not men but mice
so i return to pay the men
who left our land in shards
this lacquered box contains a special
game of chance at cards

breathing and becoming
who am I to say
wonder what's forthcoming
onward come what may
invigorating progress
this gathering of light
a radiance of fire
illuminates the night

burn off the imperfections
evaporate the tears
dissolve all baser metals
remove all earthly fears
think not of those below you
they are not men but ants
incendiary thunder
a circumstance of chance
ascending plumes of smoke
I breathe into my lungs
to mask the taste of sorrow
like salt upon my tongue
